this image irks me.
i’m not and never have considered myself a religious person (in fact, i’ve probably made many anti-religion posts), but i’ve come to realize that religion is a great tool in helping people better themselves. When you strip it down, religion is basically a guideline on how to live an honorable life.
sure, religion has many bad connotations, but ALL religions have flaws. Some are just more substantial than others. It’s a formulated set of ideas. Not proven facts. Of course it’s not perfect, and one religion is no better than another (That’s the problem I have with many religious people. They completely discount all other religions except their own). it’s how people choose to live their lives. it’s personal preference.
That being said, religion should NEVER dictate law (i’m talking to you, Christians) and should NEVER be forced upon someone.
When taken out of context, religion is merely a set of morals; but you don’t necessarily need religion to have good morals. Good morals are instinctual. We’re humans. We’re all connected, and we all have a basic idea of the way people work. For example, you refrain from cheating on your spouse because you KNOW it’s not the right thing to do. You don’t kill someone because you KNOW it will cause pain. You don’t steal because you KNOW it will be at another person’s expense. You KNOW what causes emotional pain based on your own and others’ experiences. Not because God said it was wrong, but because you KNOW it’s wrong.
I could start a religion and make one of the commandments “thou shall never touch a hot burner on an oven” and people would say, “psht, well duh”. it’s the same concept as “thou shall not cheat” only it’s not as obvious because cheating causes emotional pain (which is subjective) rather than physical pain (which is objective).
So, for people with weak emotional judgment, religion is fantastic. Yes, it’s hard to reason with people possessing weak emotional judgment, so just leave them alone. They’re in the right place. They’re getting help.

This is probably the best post you’ve ever made.

HAD to reblog.

How about this: stand on your own two feet. Religion throws the bad in with the good, and that’s the worst thing about...
